How Do I Get to Heaven?

I believe this is the most important question a person can ask.

The Bible says that we are all sinners and as a result are guilty before a perfect God. Do you doubt that you have violated God’s law? Let me ask you a few questions. Have you ever told a lie, taken something that doesn’t belong to you, or used God’s name in vain? Have you ever looked with lust? These are just four of God’s ten commandments. How are you measuring up so far? Shall I continue?

Most people believe they are good and deserve to go to heaven. The problem, however, is that we measure ourselves according to our own standard or the standards of the society in which we live. However, God does not use man’s imperfect standard. Man has the tendency to grade on a curve, sure I’ve taken something that doesn’t belong to me, but I’ve never robbed a bank. Sure, I’ve told little white lies, but never has anyone suffered as a result of them. God requires perfect obedience according to His perfect standard, and there isn’t a person who has set foot on this earth that hasn’t violated God’s law in some way.

In response to our sins, God sent His Son Jesus Christ, who lived the perfect life that you and I cannot live and die the death that you and I deserve. When Christ died on the Cross, He died for those who would put their faith in Him. The moment a person accepts Jesus as his or her Messiah, a transaction occurs. We give Jesus our sin and He gives us His righteousness. Through Jesus. Having been made perfect in the eyes of God through the sacrifice of His Son, we are able to enter into His perfect Heaven.
